Understanding Automated Emails on Kajabi

Automated emails in Kajabi are a powerful tool to keep your customers informed and engaged without requiring manual intervention. These emails are triggered by various actions your users take, such as making a purchase or posting a comment in your community.

Kajabi has simplified this process by providing default email templates that handle these interactions. However, to ensure that every communication aligns with your brand's identity, you have full control to edit these templates. This flexibility allows you to customize the tone, style, and content of these automated emails so they resonate with your audience and reinforce your brand's message.

What Triggers Automated Emails?

Automated emails are sent after various transactional triggers, including:

  • After a purchase is made: When a customer completes a purchase, they receive a confirmation email, which is a great opportunity to thank them and provide any necessary next steps.
  • After a comment is posted in your community: If you have an active community on Kajabi, members receive notifications when someone comments on their posts, helping to keep engagement high.

These automated emails save you time while ensuring that your customers receive timely and relevant information. Now, let’s dive into how you can customize these emails to make them work best for your business.

How to Edit the Auto-Generated Email Templates Sent by Your Kajabi Site

Kajabi automatically sends several different emails and notifications, triggered by user actions like purchases, comments, and more. These are referred to as "Email Templates" in Kajabi. While Kajabi provides default templates, you can customize these to better align with your branding and messaging.

Accessing Your Automated Emails

To edit these automated emails:

  1. Open the Settings tab from the Dashboard.
  2. Select Email Templates.
  3. Choose the template you wish to edit by selecting the Edit icon next to the title.
  4. Customize the content as needed.
  5. Click Save to keep and apply your changes.

Note: Customizations to these templates will apply universally to every recipient of that particular email, so ensure that the messaging is broad enough to fit various contexts.

Kajabi offers a wide range of email templates, each serving a specific purpose. Here's a detailed explanation of each:

    • Add a personal congratulatory message and perhaps a link to resources that can help them make more conversions.

Customizing Your Email Templates with Liquid Objects

Liquid Objects allow you to personalize your email content dynamically, pulling specific data from your user database to create a more tailored experience.

How to Use Liquid Objects

  1. Access the Settings tab from your Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Site Settings and select Email Templates.
  3. Choose the Email Template you want to customize.
  4. Scroll down to find the available Liquid Objects for that specific template.

Some common Liquid Objects include:

  • {{username}}: Displays the user's name.
  • {{site}}: Displays your site name.
  • {{site_login_url}}: Directs users to the login page.

Using these Liquid Objects can significantly enhance the user experience by making the emails feel more personal.

Note: The {{username}} Liquid Object only works in the Member Welcome Email template.

Adding Your Brand Logo and Colors to Auto-Generated Email Templates

Building brand recognition is key to maintaining a consistent brand image. Here’s how you can add your logo and customize the color scheme in your automated emails:

Adding Your Logo to Automated Email Templates

To make sure your brand stands out in every email, start by adding your logo to all your automated email templates. Here’s how:

  1. Open Settings in the bottom left corner of your Kajabi Dashboard.
  2. Select Email Templates under your Site Settings.
  3. Click Branding next to the Templates tab.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to upload your logo file.
  5. Click Save to keep and apply your changes.

By adding your logo, you establish a visual connection with your brand that customers will recognize over time. This is especially important for transactional emails, which are often overlooked as branding opportunities.

Customizing Your Email Template Button Colors

The buttons in your email templates are more than just functional—they’re a key part of your brand’s visual identity. Customizing the button colors to match your brand helps create a cohesive look and feel across all your communications.

Here’s how to customize the button colors in your automated email templates:

  1. Open Settings in the bottom left corner of your Kajabi Dashboard.
  2. Select Email Templates under your Site Settings.
  3. Click Branding next to the Templates tab.
  4. Click the Button color to select a color from your site color palette. If you prefer a custom color, use the color wheel to choose it.
  5. Customize the Font color to complement your button color.
  6. Click Save to keep and apply your changes.

Note: By default, the buttons in the auto-generated email templates are black with white font. Adjusting these colors to match your brand palette helps make the emails feel more connected to your overall brand experience.

Adding Buttons to Email Templates That Don’t Have Them

Most of your auto-generated email templates will already include a button, but a few templates might not. If you want to add a button to one of these templates, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the following code where you want the button to appear:
    INSERT BUTTON NAME
  2. Replace INSERT BUTTON NAME with the text you want displayed on the button (e.g., "Login").
  3. Replace INSERT LIQUID OBJECT with the supported liquid object for your email template (e.g., site_login_url).

How to Find the Correct Liquid Objects: Each email template contains specific liquid objects that are compatible with that template. When you open an email template editor, you’ll see a list of available liquid objects at the bottom of the editor. Use only these listed liquid objects to ensure the button functions correctly.

Note: Adding a liquid object that isn’t compatible with the email template can result in a broken link, which leads to a poor user experience. It’s essential to double-check that you’re using the correct objects.

Customizing and Creating Liquid Objects for Personalized Marketing Emails

Liquid Objects are more than just placeholders; they allow you to insert dynamic content into your emails based on user data collected through forms.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Custom Liquid Object

Step 1: Create a Custom Form Field

  • Open the Marketing tab from the Dashboard.
  • Click Forms.
  • Click + New Form.
  • Give your form an internal title and click Save.
  • Under "Form Fields," select + Add Form Field, then Create a New Field.
  • In the Title field, input the question you want to ask your page visitor.
  • Under Type, choose the input method your contacts will use to answer the question (e.g., Checkbox, Select Box, Radio Buttons).
  • Click Save to keep your changes.

Step 2: Add the Opt-In Form to a Page

To allow the Liquid Object to pull information from the data store, the form must be added to your site:

  • Add your newly created Opt-in Form to your pages and funnels.

Step 3: Add the Liquid Object to Your Marketing Emails

Once the custom form field is created and added to a form, you can use the corresponding Liquid Object in your marketing emails:

  • Open the Marketing tab from your Dashboard.
  • Click Email Campaigns.
  • Select + New Email Campaign and choose between an Email Broadcast or Email Sequence.
  • Choose an Email Template, select your recipients, and click Save & Continue.
  • Hover over your Email Content and click Edit content to open the Visual Editor.
  • Hover over the email section you wish to edit and click Edit.
  • In the Text Editor in the sidebar, locate a dropdown labeled "Personalize." Click the dropdown and choose a Liquid Object.
  • Click Save to insert your Liquid Object and keep your changes.

Note: When a custom Liquid Object is placed into the Text body, it will appear in the format of {{ custom_1 }}, with the number ascending for each custom Form Field created in your site.

Step 4: Send

When your email is sent, your recipients will receive a personalized message based on the information they input into your Opt-In Form.

For example, if you’re teaching music lessons and ask which instrument the user wants to learn, their selection will be reflected in the email.
