Step 1: buy a phone number inside the system

Go to Settings → Phone System and add a new number. You'll see the available countries: United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina and more. Pricing varies by country: a US number runs about a dollar a month, Puerto Rico around three, Mexico around six. If you'll be sending SMS, the number also needs A2P verification.

On purchase, the system asks for identity verification: scan a QR code, upload your ID, verify your face. It's an anti-fraud measure, because an AI-powered phone number in the wrong hands is a problem.

Step 2: decide who answers first

In the number's settings you define the routing. You can have the call ring your phone or a team member's first, and only fall to the agent if nobody picks up. Or the reverse: the agent takes everything and transfers to a human only when the caller asks. In my case, the agent answers all calls and passes them to me when someone wants to speak directly.

Step 3: build and train your voice agent

The demo goes off script: the agent insists on continuing in Spanish because of a policy I'd left in the prompt, which is a useful reminder that the prompt is the agent's whole world.
